Panasonic Air Conditioner Troubleshooting

Before repairing the device, it is necessary to diagnose the condition of the equipment. Repair of air conditioners becomes much easier due to the fact that many models have a diagnostic system that reports about the malfunctions by flashing a special LED or displaying an error code on the panel of the indoor unit or controller. The causes of breakages can be different, here are the main ones.

Panasonic CS-1270TR Air Conditioner Troubleshooting

FaultsCause
Does not operate.• Has the fuse blown or has the circuit breaker been tripped?
• Is the Power Switch at Off?
• Have you made a mistake in timer operation?
• Is the unit at the starting of Heating Operation? If yes, Hot-start is activating.
• Is the unit in the Deicing? If yes, wait for finishing the Deicing.
Does not cool or heat effectively.• Is the air filter dirty? See air filter cleaning lnstructions.
• The room may have been very hot when the room air conditioner was first turned on. Allow time for it to cool down.
• Has the temperature been set incorrectly?
• Are the indoor unit’s air inlet or outlet vents obstructed?
• The weather is quite cold, the unit repeats the Heating and the Deicing, so that we recommend you to aid with another heating apparatus.
The room has a peculiar odor.• Check that this is not a damp smell exuded by the walls, carpet, furniture or cloth items in the room.
The air conditioner operation is noisy.• For a noise that sounds like water flowing: This is the sound of Freon flowing inside the air conditioner unit.
• For a noise that sounds like the compressed air releasing into atmosphere. This is the sound of reversing the Freon flow inside the unit at the starting and finishing the Deicing during Heating Operation.
It seems that condensation is leaking from air conditioner.• Condensation occurs when the airflow from the air conditioner cools the warm air.
Air conditioner does not operate for about 3 minutes when restart.• This is protect the mechanism. Wait about three minutes and operation will begin.
Remote control display is faint, or no display at all.• Are the batteries depleted?
• Are the batteries inserted in the opposite (+) and (-) directions?

TroublePossible CauseRemedy
Air conditioner does not run at all.1. Power failure.1. Restore power.
2. Leakage circuit breaker tripped.2. Contact service center.
3. Line voltage is too low.3. Consult your electrician or dealer.
4. Batteries in remote controller have run down.4. Replace batteries.
OPERATION lamp blinks and air conditioner does not operate.Trouble in system.Contact service center.
Compressor runs but soon stops.Obstruction in front of condenser coil. (Outdoor Unit)Remove obstruction.
Poor cooling performance.1. Dirty or clogged air filter.1. Clean air filter to improve airflow.
2. Heat source or many people in room.2. Eliminate heat source if possible.
3. Doors and/or windows are open.3. Shut them to keep the heat out.
4. Obstacle near air intake or air discharge port.4. Remove it to ensure good airflow.
5. Thermostat is set too high for cooling.5. Set the temperature lower.
Clicking sound is heard from the air conditioner. In cooling operation, any plastic parts may shrink due to a sudden temperature change. In this event, a clicking sound may occur. This is normal, and the sound will soon disappear.
OPERATION lamp lights but outdoor unit will not run.The use of cellular phones near the air conditioner may cause disturbance to its normal operation.1. Turn off the power then restart the air conditioner after a while.
2. Consult your dealer.

SymptomCause
POWER indicator blinks before the unit is switched on.•This is a preliminary step in preparation for the operation when the ON timer has been set.
•When ON Timer is set, the unit may start earlier (up to 35 minutes) before the actual set time in order to achieve the desired temperature on time.
POWER indicator blinks during HEAT mode with no warm air supply (and flap is closed).•The unit is in defrost mode (and AIR SWING is set to AUTO).
TIMER indicator is always on.•The timer setting repeats daily once set.
Operation is delayed a few minutes after restarting.•The delay is a protection to the unit’s compressor.
Indoor fan stops occasionally during heating operation.•To avoid unintended cooling effect.
Indoor fan stops occasionally during automatic fan speed setting.•This helps to remove the surrounding odour.
Airflow continues even after operation has stopped.• Extraction of remaining heat from the indoor unit (maximum 30 seconds).
The room has a peculiar odour.•This may be due to damp smell emitted by the wall, carpet, furniture or clothing.
Cracking sound during operation.•Changes of temperature caused the expansion/ contraction of the unit.
Water flowing sound during operation.•Refrigerant flow inside the unit.
Mist emerges from indoor unit.•Condensation effect due to cooling process.
Outdoor unit emits water/steam.•Condensation or evaporation occurs on pipes.
Louder noise at outdoor unit during early operation of i AUTO-X.•The compressor and fan rotate at higher speed to boost cooling performance during initial operation.
Discoloration of some plastic parts.• Discoloration is subject to material types used in plastic parts, accelerated when exposed to heat, sun light, UV light or environmental factor.
Operation in HEAT/COOL mode is not working efficiently.•Set the temperature correctly.
•Close all doors and windows.
•Clean or replace the filters.
• Clear any obstruction at the air inlet and air outlet vents.
Noisy during operation.•Check if the unit has been installed at an incline. •Close the front panel properly.
Remote control does not work. (Display is dim or transmission signal is weak.)• Insert the batteries correctly.
• Replace weak batteries.
The unit does not work.•Check if the circuit breaker is tripped.
•Check if timers have been set.
The unit does not receive the signal from the remote control.• Make sure the receiver is not obstructed.
•Certain fluorescent lights may interfere with signal transmitter. Please consult authorized dealer.

Is it okay? This is the answer
Normal Operation
Air conditioner has been restarted, but does not operate for 3 minutes. This is to protect the air conditioner. Wait until the air conditioner begins to operate.
A sound like water flowing can be heard. This is the sound of refrigerant flowing inside the air conditioner.
It seems that fog is coming out from the air conditioner.Condensation occurs when the airflow from the air conditioner cools the room.
The room has a peculiar odour. This may be a damp smell emitted by the wall, carpet, furniture or clothing in the room.
The outdoor unit emits water or steam. In COOL/DRY operation, moisture in the air condenses into water on the cool surface of outdoor unit piping that causes dripping.
During Automatic Airflow Volume setting, indoor fan stops occasionally. This is to remove the smell emitted by the surroundings.
(For Heat Pump Model only) Operation stops for about 12 minutes during heating (The power indicator blinks). This is to melt the frost which has accumulated on the outdoor unit (defrosting operating). This will take no longer than about 12 minutes. Water drips from the outdoor unit. Wait until this operation ends. (the power indicator will light up). (Frost will accumulates on the outdoor unit when the outdoor temperature is low and humidity is high.)
(For Heat Pump Model only) During heating operation, indoor fan may run at on and off conditions. This is to prevent undesired cooling effect during heating operation.
Abnormal Operation
The air conditioner does not operate.Has the circuit breaker been tripped?
Has the power plug been removed from the wall outlet?
Is the timer being used correctly?
Air conditioner produces loud noise during operation. Is the installation work slanted?
The air conditioner does not cool or warm effectively.Has the temperature been set incorrectly?
Are the filters dirty?
Are the intake or outlet vents of the outdoor unit obstructed?
Are all windows and doors closed?
Remote control / display doesn’t workBatteries empty?
Batteries correctly inserted (+) and (-)?
